Sketchy training/fun image for our younger dogs, Syris and Bomber. They're about 6 months old here, and this is Bomber's first live catch, which was actually an accident.
These aren't game birds...in fact, they are some of Khamsin's prized racing homing pigeons. We let our homing pigeons out to fly around the stable and surrounding desert every few days, because they love the exercise and freedom. It's slightly dangerous with hawks and other predators in the area, but they're fast birds and normally they're fine. However, we hadn't counted on Bomber's zeal for catching birds, and she snagged one when we weren't near enough to stop her.
As you can see, she also got Syris to try to catch them with her, but he isn't a natural bird hunter and doesn't really understand the way they move like Bomber does (he's great with hares and antelope, though).
Well, needless to say, we now keep Bomber away from the homing pigeons, but it was an exciting first catch anyway!
